5 things every West Cork restaurant website needs

5 min read·24 August 2026

From menus to bookings to Google, the essentials that turn a hungry search into a table.

A restaurant website in West Cork has one job: turn a hungry person holding a phone into a booking or a walk-in. Most sites fall at the first hurdle because they were designed to look good on a laptop, not to work on a phone at six o'clock on a Friday. Here are the five things every restaurant site, from Schull to Rosscarbery, genuinely needs, plus a few that quietly make the difference.

1. A menu that works on a phone

Nine out of ten people checking your menu are on mobile. Give them real text on the page that loads instantly and reads in one thumb-scroll. This is also why the PDF menu has to go: it forces people to pinch and zoom, and worse, Google can barely read it, so a PDF menu is nearly invisible in search. Type your menu out as proper web content and both your customers and Google will thank you.

2. Booking in two taps

Every extra step loses people. Put a clear Book a table button on every page, with booking that works on the phone, no app download and no fiddly form. If you take bookings by phone, make the number tap-to-call. A tourist deciding between you and the place next door in Clonakilty will pick whichever is easier to book right now.

3. Photography that sells the room

Stock photos of anonymous food fool nobody. Real pictures of your dishes, your dining room and the view do the selling for you. One good afternoon with a decent camera, ideally in natural light, gives you a year of images for the site, Google and social. For a harbour spot in Baltimore or Bantry, a shot of the room at golden hour is worth more than any paragraph of copy.

4. A complete Google Business Profile

For a lot of diners your Google listing is the website. Opening hours, menu link, photos and reviews all show up before anyone clicks through. Keep it accurate, especially bank holidays and seasonal hours, and reply to reviews. Our Google Business Profile guide walks through every field worth filling in.

5. Speed

A slow site loses diners before they see a single dish. If your homepage takes more than three seconds on mobile data, and West Cork mobile data is not always brilliant, people leave. Compressed images, tidy code and good hosting fix this. Fast is not a luxury, it is table stakes.

Allergens and dietary info are not optional

Under EU rules allergen information has to be available, and beyond the law it is simply good service. Mark vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options clearly on the menu. A coeliac family deciding where to eat in Kinsale will choose the place that told them upfront it could look after them. Make it easy to find and you win the whole table, not just one diner.

Seasonal menus and West Cork produce

If your kitchen changes with the seasons, your website should too. Naming local suppliers, the day-boat fish, the Gubbeen cheese, the vegetables from up the road, tells visitors they are getting something they cannot get at home. Keep the menu current though: nothing frustrates a guest more than arriving for a dish that came off in April. A menu you can edit yourself in minutes is worth paying for.

Tourists and locals want different things

Your regulars from Skibbereen already know you. Tourists do not, and they are making a decision in thirty seconds from a car park. Locals want this week's specials and your Christmas opening. Visitors want reassurance: where you are, what it costs, that you are open, and that other people loved it. A good site serves both without making either dig for what they came for.

Get these right and your website earns its keep every service. If you run a restaurant in West Cork and your site is not pulling its weight, see how we help restaurants and cafes or get in touch for a straight chat.
